| Ceramics and the tales they tell These ceramics are created in an environment in which love and affection is lavished on each piece as it is made. As a result, this attention gives each piece a life of its own. These ceramics have many wonderful tales to tell. From among these tales arises the Shingama Co.'s conceptual motif of "Ceramics and the tales they tell", both for the people who make these items and for the people who use these items. What these people hear depends on the person who is listening. Please listen closely to the stories these ceramics tell us. |

Shingama and Seika Shingama was built on the orders of the Nabeshima-han government in 1830 at the Sotoyama mine in Arita as a kiln specializing in large plates, bowls, and other tableware. The ruins of the old kiln have been designated for preservation as Kuromuta Shingama along the slope of the mine inside the ceramics plant grounds. Seika was created here on September 1, 1976. In Chinese, Seika is pronounced qing hua, denoting its blue pattern. Our objective is to create ceramics that will be used frequently in our everyday lives. To do this, we have preserved our characteristic indigo and white underglazing, and rigorously maintained a position of sparing no effort to make these items by hand. |
