For the greater enjoyment of Seika

One condition for enjoying Seika is an understanding of the appeal of hand painting. Our staff produces Seika with devotion, and we insist that every one of our pieces be painted by hand. We want you to be aware of the variation in our illustrations. Sometimes customers complain about these differences, but we think they are both an advantage and a shortcoming. We hope you enjoy the variations in the characteristic Komojin illustrations, and understand that they are due to changing tastes and the individual illustrator.

The illustrations change with the times and the person doing the illustration. Therefore, we provide our customers ceramics of individual distinction.

We would be glad if you considered this another unique aspect of our products.

Please keep this in mind as we explain how illustrations change inaccordance with the times
œAs the times change, so do the illustrator's preferences.
œThe feeling of the illustration changes with each illustrator.
Techniques can be handed down, but the illustrators' pride ensures that they will express their individuality and personality on the ceramics as long as they continue to work.

Transitional changes in the illustrations

Take a look at the transitional changes in the illustrations that typify our work--the Komojin. This aspect is surprisingly little known, but distinctiveness such as this can be enjoyed only in those illustrations rendered by hand.

The ceramics that comprise Seika
Some of you may have seen this discussed in magazines or elsewhere, but one
frequently encounters Seika products in unexpected places. They may be seen
briefly in movie or television scenes. It takes quite an expert on Seika if
you can recognize it in these settings.

Yoji Fukui, the chief designer, rendered the contemporary arrangement of the older illustrations of komojin to create these familiar illustrations.
When the illustrator changes, so does the feeling of the piece. Of course, techniques can be conveyed and handed down to others, creating a new feeling. As these techniques improve, the illustrator's brush naturally begins to move in new ways, even though the illustrator remains the same. It is therefore inevitable that the mood of the illustrations will change.
Several illustrators work together to fill orders, but they work on items individually. For example, several people may be involved in the production of just one order. While they all are focused on the same thing, variations are inevitable if the object is to fill the customer's order quickly.
Recently, complaints about the illustrations have declined, but still some difficulties remain. Therefore, we would be happy if our customers considered these variations as one of the interesting features of illustrations done by hand.
We will continue to offer our customers a variety of products in the future, and we intend to continue creating new and appealing designs that our customers will cherish for a long time to come.

To ensure that our most popular items have illustrations that are to a certain extent uniform, we assign the rendering of these illustrations to specific individuals to provide our customers with identical items as far as it is in our power to do so. We have spent a substantial period of trial and error on our illustrations.
